The Virtual Water Project:




The Virtual Water Project, designed by Timm Kekeritz, created this set of infographics to help raise the issue of water being probably one of the most precious resources and vital for everyone’s everyday life. But despite this obvious fact, people use large amounts of water: drinking, cooking and washing, but even more for producing things such as food, paper, cotton clothes, and almost every other physical product.
The water footprint of a person, company or nation is defined as the total volume of freshwater that is used to produce the commodities, goods and services consumed by the person, company or nation.
The idea of the water footprint is quite similar to the ecological footprint, but focussing on the use of water.
I like how Kekeritz has kept the design to cyan and black, using the data gathered by Hoeckstra et al, the minimalistic silhouettes and good subtle use of typography only, featuring the elegant typefaces TheSans and TheSerif by Luc(as) de Groot.

Hello Milo:






Beautiful creation of identity and campaign material to support the launch of a new paper range from FibreShield, one of America's largest paper distributors.
Designed by freelance design and art director Jonathan Davies, photography by Kim Holtermand.

Sustainable Design:




Hannah Dollery: A recently graduated Graphic Design student from New Zealand, who now works for a boutique agency, Construct in London.
These images are from a hand book entitled Sustain-a-what. It looks at sustainable graphic design from a young designers perspective, and introduces how, in little steps graphic design can become a sustainable industry.

'Shift is a movement that pursues sustainable graphic design. It aims to inform, educate and persuade graphic designers to be aware of the principles they need to apply when designing for sustainable development. Sustainability pertains to the goal of this thesis to conserve energy and resources as much as possible when producing graphic works. While design refers to the process of transforming data into information, which will further help the target audience understand their impacts to the environment'.

Nice Concept:


Malin Holmstrom: A Swedish graphic design student who is studying at Billy Blue College of Design in Sydney.
I like some of the ideas and concepts Malin works with, as he says, “In my design work I’ve focused on more sustainable design, for instance the project ‘Plant a Tree’ (pictured above), where I’ve targeted global warming and considered sustainable materials.”

Sustainable design:




Nice bit of identity work from the design studio 10 Associates. I particularly like the booklet, the use of photography and branding. It seems these days, its all about the close ups of a farm yard animal, to celebrate how ethical a huge multi-national corporation is.
This branding work was for AB Sustain, a subdivision of AB Agri ltd, the agriculture group of Associated British Foods. They are a company that specialises in working with clients such as Sainsbury's and Waitrose. They design, develop and deliver sustainable agricultural supply chain solutions.

Deluxe delight:



I really like the design of this box for the Mc Donalds festive deluxe burger, this is a good use of using imagery to promote their products and ingredients they apparently use, whether to believe them or not is an entirely different matter!
I can't find who has designed the box, but I will be on the look out.
